pastopher's book of etiquette

I haven't blogged in quite a while, so I thought I'd shoot one out there to the interwebs...and this isn't just any old blog, this one's dedicated to the lost art of social etiquette.

I'm not going to bore you with an entire huge list of things, just a couple of things to consider when spending time with a friend.

1. NO 'Snack Time'
- When 2 people have lunch, both are involved in the eating festivities, but I have a bit of an issue when just one person busts out a snack in front of the other person. I realize that people are often on the go, and we all have different eating habits, but the last thing I want to do is listen to and smell your snack. It's amazing how loud the eating process is when you yourself are not eating.

2. NO 'I Gotta' Take This'
- There is probably nothing that makes a person feel less important than when you are constantly texting or talking to someone else while they are anxiously awaiting your focus return to them. How did we get by before there were cell phones? We had to actually focus on the person we're with. They took time to be there in person with you, have the respect to turn the phone off for half an hour.

3. NO 'Sorry I'm Late'
- I've made it a life-long habit to always be early to everything. There are rare occasions where I'm a couple minutes late, but those times are rare, and I'm calling the person and making them aware before the meeting time. The downside of being 15 minutes early to a meeting is when the other person is 15 minutes late. This means I'm waiting 30 minutes at Starbucks, loitering, sitting by myself, looking like a goofy teenager who's been stood up. Late people are always late, and that's not a reputation you want. Showing up early is a fantastic way to show someone they're important to you.
